Provenance

What we are looking at is
I believe the translation of
a fragment of a lost original

by an obscure author claimed
by some to have been
a notorious plagiarist

and by others to have been
the subject of a lengthy panegyric
in an otherwise unknown drama

mentioned in a footnote to
a treatise on rhetoric attributed to
the so-called Scribe of Anapolis.*
